Camping between salt and fresh

Camping Boven het Maaiveld is located right in the middle between salt and fresh. Within 25 minutes by car you can stretch out on the beach and enjoy the North Holland coast. In the other direction, you will be with your feet in the IJsselmeer within a maximum of 25 minutes. Here you will also find the many characteristic VOC towns such as Hoorn, Medemblik and Enkhuizen.

The salty sea: the Dutch coast

The Dutch coast is famous for its beautiful beaches. From Camping Boven het Maaiveld you can be on the beach within half an hour. Of course, this can be done from seaside resorts such as Callantsoog and Sint Maartenszee. It is even more fun to park the car in Schoorldam and cycle the last part through Schoorlse Duinen to the sea. The sea is never far away.

After the salt, the sweet

The IJsselmeer coast is beautiful and the water is fresh and quickly nice and warm. Everywhere you will find nice and small beaches for swimming and sunbathing. One of our favourites is the one in Medemblik, 15 minutes’ drive from the campsite. The real sandy beach feeling with fresh water and a lovely beach bar to plop down for something tasty. But even after a day in Hoorn, there is a nice city beach available to cool off.

Or rather more…

Maybe you don’t need the vastness of the sea or the IJsselmeer, but you do love to swim in open water in a lake. Close to the campsite you will find the Skarpet natural pool, but there is also plenty of swimming in the ring canal at Opmeer. Slightly larger and yet nearby are the Geestmerambacht and the Park of Luna where it is a wonderful day to stay. In addition, in Hoogwoud and in just about every surrounding village there is a nice swimming pool to make a splash.
